Unit Description

This unit introduces knowledge management as an innovative process that needs to be closely aligned to organisation goals. The development of knowledge management systems requires a sound understanding of the various building blocks of knowledge management. The unit introduces critical building blocks such as knowledge identification, development, preservation, representation, distribution and sharing. All engineering managers must have the fundamental skills and knowledge to understand, design, develop and manage knowledge management systems in an organisation. This unit provides an understanding of the complex issues of knowledge management that are essential to the career advancement of engineering managers. In addition, the unit also introduces organisational culture and behavioural charges that are needed to transform a traditional organisation to a knowledge-oriented enterprise.
