This unit focuses on the aspects of project planning and project development. Building an appreciation of the nature and role of project management as a professional discipline, the unit will describe, clarify, and formalise project management of the front end of projects. This will prepare you for further study or bring new knowledge and skills to your professional work.
This unit focuses on the final two phases of project management; project delivery and handover. Continuing from PMQ501, you will develop your appreciation of the nature and role of project management as a professional discipline.
The successful management and delivery of projects requires a firm understanding of project management systems – not only in isolation, but also the interactions between systems. Students will engage with this unit using a systems thinking and integration approach, learning to assess projects in regards to scope, schedule, quality and risk management.
You will learn conceptually about project management techniques such as the interface between organisational systems and innovation. In addition these systems are studied in the context of specific environments such as in health, safety and environmental management.
This unit will provide you with the fundamental skills and knowledge to manage internal and external stakeholders, and to appreciate the role and contribution of the project manager in facilitating outcomes critical for the success of a project. The unit will specifically focus on the competencies required to effectively lead, motivate and manage individuals within the project team. The unit provides an understanding of how to undertake negotiation and conflict resolution, recognise individual and cultural differences and different communication styles, and appreciate ethical issues appearing in projects.
