Technical requirements for studying online
Online learning offers flexibility and convenience, but adherence to minimum technical requirements is vital. Ensure the following for optimal technology preparation:
A computer is required for your online studies. A tablet or phone is not suitable as the primary study device.
Please ensure that you have access to a personal computer, and not one provided by your workplace, as the latter could result in blocked software and other restrictions that may impact your ability to complete exams and other assessment tasks.
A mobile device may also be required for the purposes of identity verification in some assessments. An iPhone XR/11 or Android device running Android 12–14 is recommended.

We recommend using the following browsers:
Adobe Reader
You can use Adobe Reader to read PDF files as part of your studies. It’s free to download.
When downloading Adobe Reader, we recommend deselecting the option to Install McAfee Security Scan Plus. This option is selected by default and is displayed on the download page beneath the heading Included with your download.
VLC media player
You can use VLC media player for all audio and video files that you’ll have access to in your course.
Multi-factor authentication (MFA)
Multifactor authentication (MFA) is a security measure that requires you to prove your identity using two or more factors to gain access. You’ll be asked to verify your identity with multifactor authentication when logging into some QUT applications.
You can find more information and guides to setting up MFA on the Multifactor Authentication page.
