This course unlocks the opportunity to manage projects across a range of industries, by enabling you to specialise in either the General Project Management stream or undertaking a study area in IT and Systems, Health Management, or Emergency Disaster Management.

Entry Requirements

You can gain entry into the 1.5 year Master of Project Management program with the following:
    • A recognised bachelor degree (or higher) in architecture, built environment, business, engineering, health management, information technology, or project management; or
    • A recognised bachelor degree (or higher) in any discipline followed by at least 6 months full-time (or equivalent) professional project management work experience.

You can gain entry into the 1 year Master of Project Management program with the following:
    • A recognised graduate diploma (or higher) in architecture, built environment, business, engineering, health management, information technology, or project management; or
    • A recognised bachelor honours degree in architecture, built environment, business, engineering, health management, information technology, or project management; or
    • A recognised bachelor honours degree (or higher) in any other discipline followed by at least six months full time (or equivalent) professional project management work experience; or
    • A recognised bachelor degree (or higher) in any discipline plus a recognised graduate certificate in architecture, built environment, business, engineering, health management, information technology, or project management.
    • Successful completion of QUT’s online Graduate Certificate in Project Management or on-campus Graduate Certificate in Project Management course.

Course Units

Students must complete a total of 144 credit points (12 units).

- 48 credit points of core foundation units
- 72 credit points of advanced core units
- a 24 credit point specialisation or 24 credit points selected from Project Management General Unit Options

You can study full-time, part-time or at an accelerated pace and adjust your study load every teaching period, to better suit your needs. Choose up to two units every teaching period, factoring in approximately 12-15 hours of study per week and unit.

When reviewing QUT course documentation, please note that the code PMN refers to the on-campus version of a unit and the code PMQ refers to the online version. Both versions of the unit are similar in structure and content.

The units will provide you with targeted skills and a holistic understanding of frameworks supporting the project management life cycle, by capturing the theoretical knowledge and practical applications for effective project scoping, design, management and alignment to organisational strategy.

By covering a diverse range of topics including project management essentials, managing people, project systems, organisational strategy, academic research, risk management and procurement these units collectively equip students with the tools they need to excel in project leadership roles.
