Course overview

Empower change and support victim-survivors

This course empowers you to drive meaningful change and support those affected by sexual violence in their communities. It will equip you with the knowledge and skills you will need to effectively address critical issues in relation to sexual violence, focusing on prevention through policy and education. The course emphasises understanding intersectionality and contextual factors affecting individuals and communities.

You will learn trauma-informed practices to respond to victim-survivors, including children and those from diverse backgrounds, while fostering engagement with Indigenous Australians. Professionalism, ethics, and leadership are key components in preparing you to evaluate and improve sexual violence-related programs. 

Students who complete the Graduate Certificate in Prevention and Responses to Sexual Violence will receive 48 credit points in advanced standing toward the Graduate Diploma in Prevention and Responses to Gendered Violence and/or Master of Justice.

Entry requirements

You can gain entry into the Graduate Certificate in Prevention and Responses to Sexual Violence with:

6-month program

  • A completed bachelor degree (or higher qualification) in any discipline

or

  • A completed diploma (or higher qualification) in a relevant area, with at least two years (full-time or equivalent) professional experience in relevant professions

or

  • Five years (full-time or equivalent) professional experience in relevant professions.

Course outcomes

As a graduate of this course you will be equipped to evaluate research, design approaches for diverse communities, analyse contexts and communicate critical information about sexual violence. These skills help to prepare you for careers in support services, health and safety, counselling, law, criminal justice, social work, human services, health care and policy development and analysis.
