Entry requirements
You can gain entry into the Graduate Certificate in Domestic Violence Responses with:
6-month program
- a completed bachelor’s degree (or higher qualification) in any discipline
or
- a completed diploma (or higher qualification), and two years full-time (or equivalent) relevant professional work experience
or
- five years full-time (or equivalent) relevant professional work experience.

We are pleased to announce the introduction of two new courses at QUT Online from July 2025: the Master of Justice and the Graduate Diploma in Prevention and Responses to Gendered Violence. Those enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Domestic Violence will be able to articulate into these awards.
- The new Master of Justice consists of 144 credit points (12 units) and can be completed in 1.5 years full time or 3 years part time study.
- The new Graduate Diploma in Prevention and Responses to Gendered Violence consists of 96 credit points (8 units) and can be completed in 1 year full time or 2 years part time study.

No prior experience is required to understand the course content.
Some of the content may be confronting for people who have experienced DV, as the course covers child and family violence, dynamics of domestic violence, and working with victims of domestic violence. However, the course has been designed to minimise any distress students may feel. We often enrol students in this course who have had lived experience, and we understand the importance of managing the risk that the content could trigger their own trauma. With this in mind, we have applied trauma-informed design principles when developing the course. This has been very effective in managing the risk of triggering. For example, if there is a video or audio, students have the option to read the summarised transcript instead of watching or listening. We also have warning statements throughout the course giving students the option to skip over if they are not ready to engage in that material.
The units draw on a range of theories to understand, explain, and respond to domestic violence. These include theories from criminology, public health, social work, gender studies, and other disciplines.
The Graduate Certficate can help graduates get jobs in a variety of positions including research, intake, risk assessment, advocacy, donation, refuge/safe house organising, behaviour change, administration, and support (e.g. court, forms, medical) positions. Graduates could also go into probation/parole or child safety.
No prior experience in working with DV victim-survivors, with perpetrators, or in these fields is required to be successful in this course.
