The Master of Project Management course draws from globally recognised frameworks, such as the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK).

This course unlocks the opportunity to manage projects across a range of industries, by enabling you to specialise in either the General Project Management stream or undertaking a study area in IT and Systems, Health Management, or Emergency Disaster Management.

Project managers are in high demand. This program shapes individuals into decision-makers capable of designing effective project processes, establishing operational structures, and implementing governance mechanisms that steer projects toward success, even in the face of complex and evolving environments.

The Master of Project Management is accredited by the Project Management Institute (PMI) and endorsed by the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM).

Course units

Students must complete a total of 144 credit points (12 units).

  • 48 credit points of core foundation units. 
  • 72 credit points of advanced core units
  • a 24 credit point specialisation or 24 credit points selected from Project Management General Unit Options

This course offers specialisations in the below unit sets. For elective units, students must complete a total of 24 credit points from their selected unit set. In the IT&S discipline, students can either choose any combination of units listed in the IT&S unit sets to complete the 24 credit points or follow the suggested units within a unit set to complete an IT&S specialisation.

Entry requirements

You can gain entry into the Master of Project Management online via the following pathways:

1-year program

  • A completed recognised Bachelor Honours degree or higher qualification in project management or related discipline*

or

  • A completed recognised Bachelor Honours degree or higher in any discipline and six months full-time (or equivalent) professional project management work experience

or

  • QUT Graduate Certificate in Project Management. Units completed in the Graduate Certificate are credited to the Master degree.

1.5-year program

  • A completed recognised Bachelor degree or higher qualification in project management or related discipline

or

  • A completed recognised Bachelor degree in any discipline and six months full-time (or equivalent) professional project management work experience.

*Related disciplines: engineering, built environment, architecture, business, information technology, health management.

 

Fast-track pathways

If you hold a Graduate Certificate in Project Management or possess equivalent work experience, you may be eligible to enrol in the Master’s program with recognition of prior learning (RPL), enabling you to complete the degree in 1 year instead of 1.5 years.
