A successful introduction into the Graduate Certificate in Policy and Governance for our students in Teaching Period 4

For the first time QUT Online ran an exciting, interactive orientation zoom session. Many newly-enrolled and current students of the Graduate Certificate in Policy Governance attended the session, meeting their Lead Unit Co-Ordinator and classmates for the first time.

This action-packed session also allowed our students to meet the broader QUT Online team and gain greater insight into the qualification and course content, as well as the resources and support available to students.

This session was also an opportunity for our Online Learning Advisors (OLA) and Teaching team to better understand why students chose QUT Online’s certificate, all while building a relationship before the Teaching Period began

Meeting the Team:

Leading this session was our Lead-unit Coordinator Danielle Miller who was accompanied by our Program Coordinator Josie Di Donato and OLAs Sean O’Connor and Duc Le. In this eventful session, students gained greater knowledge on who they were being taught by and the backgrounds that our teaching staff have within the Industry. Knowing they would be taught by Industry experts and meeting our staff before the course began, ultimately led to students feeling a greater sense of belonging to QUT and increased the levels of engagement and excitement which we know is paramount to ensuring success throughout the course.

Introduction to the program:

Studying a Post-graduate qualification can be stressful and overwhelming. At QUT, we understand our cohort of students want to ascertain as much information about our courses and our teaching staff before they commence.
In this successful session, our Lead unit Coordinator Danielle Miller was able to give an insight into the units that would be taught throughout the course. With a wealth of industry knowledge, Danielle reassured that our students would be taught key information with industry examples to help our students prepare for either starting a career in the Policy and Governance field or to enhance their current skills and knowledge they have of already working in the field.

Support and assistance:

We understand students have many questions before their course begins. What does Online study look like? What is the structure of the course? How can this qualification help me advance my career prospects? At the end of our eventful session, our students had set time for Q and A where multiple questions were answered surrounding preparation, what does online study look like as well as how to continue to connect with classmates throughout the course. Having these questions answered meant that our students felt better prepared to begin in Teaching Period 4.

The responses from majority of our students who attended this session were extremely positive. Most felt an overall sense of belonging to QUT, felt better prepared to start and more confident they would achieve success in their course.

This session was extremely successful, so much so that we plan to make it a reoccurring event for our future enrolled students.
