For financial planners and advisers, as well as those working in conjunction with the financial planning industry, it is vital to possess the foundational knowledge of the regulations that govern financial services in Australia.
This unit introduces students to the key provisions of the law and regulations relating to corporate securities and financial services – essential knowledge not only for financial planners and advisers, but also accountants, auditors, business analysts and stockbrokers.
Students will have the opportunity to apply knowledge of the financial planning regulatory environment to real-world financial planning issues and problems within various contexts, demonstrating advanced problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Professional careers in financial planning, now more than ever, require ethical competencies to meet professional responsibilities and contribute to the public interest. In this unit you will develop professional, ethical and effective communication skills. Your professional conduct and communication with clients and stakeholders is critical to the success of your financial planning career.
In this unit you will synthesise and extend the knowledge and skills you have gained in earlier units. This unit will allow you to use advanced critical thinking skills to solve real-world financial planning problems. You will also apply your professional practice skills to complex client cases and client problems.
A key component of providing financial planning advice is understanding how to manage client investments.
Become well-versed in the foundational knowledge that underpins best practice client investment management. Form an understanding of the financial concepts and issues that feed into investment management, allowing financial planners to help clients set strategic investment goals and establish comprehensive risk profiles.
Students will learn to analyse financial data and apply investment management strategies in a financial planning context. This is achieved by developing critical thinking and broad information literacy, then applying investment management strategies to real-world financial planning cases.
This unit introduces students to the Australian legal environment. You will develop your knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of business law and company law. You will also develop your research and analysis skills in contemporary business and corporate practice.
